Lights flashing, on the shoulder, navigating through heavy traffic on the Tri-State Tollway. 6 miles later, I passed it, with its lights still flashing - parked on the shoulder with a flat tire...

I hope your day is starting out better than that patient and ambulance driver. Mine is - barely.

30 minutes later a coroners van is backing up to the rear of the ambulance...

Yeah, thanks to the heavy traffic, she was on the shoulder the whole trip, I’m sure. And of course that’s where all the crap collects that can puncture a tire.

I’d sure hate to have *that* be the difference between life and death, but you never know. She really wasn’t pushing the ambulance that hard, though, and didn’t look too stressed. There was a state trooper behind me, hopefully he saw and stopped, but I’m not sure.

Kinda makes you wonder how much of that stuff comes from littering, how much is from unsecured loads, and how much is debris from previous crashes. Pulling over into tall grass always makes me a little nervous.

Well, around Chicago, the answer is definitely all of the above. It’s pretty common to see bumper covers, wheel covers, smashed taillight lenses, garbage bags, 2x4's, whatever. Late last week, I happened to notice that the shoulder was a mess on that exact same stretch of road. And I’m pretty sure that ambulances and police cars have beefed up tires for exactly that reason - heck, they’re a better candidate for run flats than any BMW running around...

I’m in a self destructive mood.

I decided to try to have a fun weekend. Portillo’s was had on Friday night. That was awesome, as usual!

..Saturday morning, called MetroPCS to fine out why I still haven’t received my refund in about a month. Well, I had to call them 20 times. Apparently when they delete your number from their system, you can’t call customer service anymore. How convenient when they owe me money that I can’t contact them. So after 20 calls back and forth getting the runaround from corporate stores and “authorized dealers” (CS told me that I have to get my refund from a store, all of the stores are saying “lol wut, we don’t give refunds silly!”) I decided fuck it, I’m going to call their CS and pretend to be an authorized dealer. Bingo, finally got to speak to someone.

Now they tell me “you didn’t pay for your service by card, it was by cash”. Yeah ummm, my bank statement and my receipt say different. But apparently their policy is that if their system says I paid cash, I paid cash even though I have ample evidence otherwise. *sigh* So, what’s their remedy to my refund situation? “We’ll ship you a check, expect to see it in 6 to 8 weeks”. Uh, why? This is YOUR mistake, and I’ve already waited a MONTH for a refund that was never even going to come. “Our billing department says you paid cash”...”well they’re factually wrong”. “The check is the best we can do”. “Okay.......so can I have a tracking number or something for the check?”. “No”. “Okay, so how am I supposed to know if it’s coming or not? After all, you’re telling me to wait a total of 3 months for a refund that most real businesses can issue in less than 24 hours”. “You can’t, just wait for it”.

As it turns out, MetroPCS’s CS AND Accounting departments are outsourced. Ugh. I just can’t.

Fine, whatever. I guess I’d make a shitty Saturday better by having some fun, right? I had awesome takeout and my favourite IPA. I then watched Bill Nye’s new show (terrible), Airplane Vs. Volcano (wat), and the first episode of A Series of Unfortunate Events (awesome sauce).

I somehow gained 4 pounds overnight. What? Okay fine, so I’ll work out hard Sunday and have something healthier. Spent the whole day hungover (never have had a hangover after just a couple beers, but fuck me, I guess), and despite working my arse off and eating better...didn’t move the weight needle this morning UGGGGGH. My mum was asking for me to come over, I blew her off. My weekend was shit already, I didn’t want to deal with family on top of it. I then learned that my contact lenses are falling apart...can’t afford to buy a new set until Friday...so may have to wear glasses I hate this week too. :(

So, I’ve already started today mad and depressed at myself for being that careless with food during the weekend. But no, the world doesn’t want to give me a break. I was super late to work because not only was my main route blocked by a crash, but both of my alternate routes were just as closed. Now I’m getting a flood of texts from my mum about blowing her off yesterday. Just, fuck everything. I’m so sad/mad at myself I just want to break something right now, or hit myself in the head.

Oh man, that sucks! There has to be some ++ karma headed your way to offset that. MetroPCS sounds like a horrible company to do business with, period. Hope they get that check to you ASAP.

My day started by getting up late, then I got cut off on the way to drop my son off - and when I honked at the idiot, he brake-checked me. With my 8 month old in the car. I hate Lyft/Uber drivers wandering around the area like idiots...

BTW - for me personally, I have found a DIRECT link between me having a couple of beers and unexplained overnight weight gain. This is part of the reason why I drink Bourbon or whiskey at home, and not beer. YMMV, of course.

Hope your afternoon gets much better - fast!

See the thing is, I haven’t had a beer since tracking my weight, so I figured the impact would be about what a margarita does to me (functionally nothing). Nope, that IPA sent my weight all out of whack. My takeout was also one that I can eat without gaining too, so it’s definitely the beer’s fault.

Yelp, only mixed drinks and wine from here on out. I also don’t want this week to be the first week in which I have gained weight, so I’m trying my best to reverse that.

I think tomorrow’s going to be better. I mean, I can’t continue to keep on having horrible days, right? I don’t like crying so much. Danke!
